Who is having right strategy, Apple or Google?

Apple vs GoogleApple and Google are the biggest clashing tech titans in  many areas. Apple has iPhone and Google has Nexus, Apple has iOS and Google has Android. Apple has Safari and Google has Chrome. So what they are competing now ? Next battle ground for these giants seems to be school kids.

Apple has iPad 2, Soon expected to release a next gen iPad. Apple’s iPad is undoubtedly the best way to consume any media. Apple has iBooks in iPad which helps reading ebook’s a pleasure. Apple recently released  iBooks 2, a new textbook experience for students. Again Apple seems to change the world again with this thought of replacing the century old reading process.

The platform embraces interactive textbooks. Pinch to zoom on DNA strands, watch videos, experience learning in an interactive fashion. The words are still there. Apple is just making learning process a bit more exciting. With all the interactive ways of reading textbooks in iPad might be wonderful experience for young student. I too agree an iPad cost more for a school goers to buy. But after considering several years of buying textbooks, iPad will be a good deal with great advantage of interactive learning. I wish I had  this facility when I was a kid.

Google has a different approach in getting into the students market. They do have Android at their disposal , as a iOS Competitor, but they seems to prefer Chrome OS to attach that niche market. Google collaborated with different schools in US to give students an opportunity to use Google Chrome OS laptops as a school PC. Google Chrome OS has certain advantages. Even if the kids damaged or lost the laptop, there wont be any loss in the data. Also the maintenance cost seems to be very less for schools compared with a windows PC. The features like instant boot, security, low maintainnce and easy to use feature of Chrome OS seems to suit the needs of kids in school education.

Two approaches with a goal to easy the burden of the learning processes for the kids. Personally I like the Apple’s way of turning iPad into textbook than the Google’s way.

The biggest difference between Apple and Google is that Apple’s strategy is always focused on a closed approach as long as they can get away with it – even if it is at the expense of the end-user/consumer. This is not a sustainable approach and does not promote innovation and experimentation by all players (even if we assume Apple innovates well) and can be short sighted on the whole to allow it do dominate a fundamental sphere like education (unlike Music or popular Media).
